Having trouble recognizing certain liabilities on the “My Debt” page of your Credit Sesame account? Here are a few common types of liabilities that consumers don't recognize on their credit report:
Collection accounts
Consumers are often unaware of collection accounts because they don't recognize the name of the collection agency. Collection agencies purchase unpaid liabilities and report them as collection accounts to the credit bureau. Often you may not recognize the collection agency, but you might remember the debt when you see the name of the original creditor. You can find the original creditor name by obtaining a copy of your full credit report. Once a year, you may get a free copy of your credit report at annualcreditreport.com. Credit reports can also be purchased for a nominal fee from your Credit Sesame account from the “My Credit Report” page.
Co-signed liabilities
You may be surprised to discover that co-signed accounts will appear on your credit report. Whenever you co-sign for a friend or relative, you are technically responsible for the repayment of that liability even though you are not the one making the payment.
Authorized user accounts
An authorized user account occurs when someone adds you as an authorized user of a credit card. Becoming an authorized user means that you can use the credit card, but you are not responsible for repayment of the liability. Even though you are not technically responsible for the liability, the account may appear on your credit report.
