I have started paying close attention to my credit score back in 2017 when I have realized that I have no credit history, credit payments or any type of established relations with any institution. Bottom line my credit score was 498 and I thought there would be no way for me to get out of this mess. In the end I decided to do something about this before Ieting it go even farther. Where am I ? Who would even consider giving me a credit card right? Most of us been there not knowing where to start and importantly staying on top of it ones you do.
(This is my story ).
With score of 498 I got rejected alot by all major credit card companies. But I wasn't giving up just yet, after all I have a job and can pay my bills on time. so after being on phone with a representative I finally talked my way into opening a secured credit line with $300 limit at 'Discover It' card which I then kept on paying and using it to show that I can be responsible and that lasted for about 8 month. Then I decided to open an unsecured credit card with Capitol One with limit of $500. Over the period of year but score jumped from 498 to 598 by just paying off those cards and keeping my utilization low. Another account that helped me and still does is my Self account which is a secure certificate of deposit account that let you build and save money as you go which is great. To Summarize you don't have to have top named credit companies to build your credit, it can honestly be any first card that you can get approved for, you most likely won't get any good % rates but that is to be expected when you building on your own. In the end dont give up and most importantly if you have any debt or credit card bill you should always pay at least your min balances just so you can be building a positive credit history, simple as buying a cup of coffee every morning and paying that off at the end of the month. Remember always check and don't be afraid to open or close any account to benefit your credit report. It takes time and patience
