Why does my pending transaction show a higher amount than I agreed to pay?
When you charge a meal at a restaurant*, we temporarily hold the amount of the meal plus a 20% pre-authorization fee to make sure you have enough funds to cover the purchase. Once the transaction has posted, we release whatever funds that were not needed to cover the purchase. E.g., If you buy a meal for $100, we will hold $120 ($100 + 20% = $120). If you tip $10, the pending transaction will show a total of $110, but once the transaction has posted we’ll release the extra $10 back to your Sesame Cash account. Note that the pending transaction may be held up to 7 business days.
*Please note that pre-authorization will apply to any merchant that identifies as a restaurant (e.g., UberEats, Postmates) and they may have their own pre-authorization charges.
