How can I manage my bills during COVID19?
We know managing bills during this time is a challenge for many. Fortunately, so do a lot of service providers and vendors. Read our tips below to learn more about how you can manage your bills by requesting accommodations with bill payments or potentially eliminating non-essential subscriptions entirely.
Here are some ways that may help you out!
- Create a list of your essentials and non-essentials to make a proper budget. One example being a 50/30/20 budget focusing on 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% on future preparations. We have a handy calculator that can help with this breakdown.
- Consider which of your non-essential subscriptions can be cut, discounted, or substituted to save you some money to place towards bills. Refer to our article here to learn more about ways to cut expenses and save money.
- Confirm your eligibility for relief programs. Tax relief and aid programs may be provided within your state and county. The CARES Act also assists individuals, families, and small businesses who’ve been affected by COVID19.
- Target debts and bills you can negotiate. Though there is no guarantee, certain subscription services such as internet, cable, and phone bills can be negotiated as they normally look to retain long-time customers.
- Focus on bills that are of more importance rather than those that can be put off and focused on at a later date. For avoidance of doubt, no bills should simply be put to the side as that poses risk for debt collectors and/or suspension in services, however, if you have a service provider that is willing to extend accommodations with payment, consider paying other bills that do not have such flexibility first.
